International Women’s Day - ‘Care as a Cornerstone’

“For this International Women’s Day 2025 – Empowering Women Public Space & Climate Change, continue on the theme of ‘Care as a Cornerstone’

At Empowering Women, Public Space and Climate Change, we share the powerful intersection of gender equity, public spaces, and climate resilience.

Our featured topic on this International Women’s Day is ‘Care’. How  a transformative care-centered approach can reshape urban environments, fostering inclusivity and sustainability.

There are many innovative female-led initiatives and community-driven projects around the world that prioritize well-being and regenerative practices. We need to highlight and centre women’s voices, especially those from marginalized communities and show how we can redefine care as a vital act of leadership and empowerment in urban design across our communities and cities.

This message is especially poignant during the challenging times we face globally-from wars and conflicts to
humanitarian crises, funding cuts, and the disproportionate impact of these challenges on women and vulnerable populations. By embracing care as a cornerstone across our communities, in leadership, from practice to policymaking, to the way we conduct ourselves day to day, we can create spaces, communities and cities that not only withstand crises but also uplift and protect those most at risk, ensuring a more equitable and resilient future for all.”
